Starting the day with a morning meeting is a game-changer for building community and fostering social-emotional skills in the classroom. Ms. Kennelly's 6th grade class kicks off each day with a morning meeting that focuses on relationship-building, empathy, and setting the tone for a productive, positive day of learning. During this time, students gather in a circle to greet one another, share updates, participate in a short activity, and discuss the day's agenda. This routine provides a consistent structure for students to connect, practice active listening, and develop crucial interpersonal abilities. Through morning meeting, Ms. Kennelly's students build empathy as they take turns sharing personal updates and respond with compassion. They also develop communication skills as they articulate their ideas and ask thoughtful questions of their peers. Morning meeting fosters a sense of belonging and community that is essential for students' social-emotional wellbeing and academic success!

To celebrate October's Farm to School Month, our 1st and 2nd grade students went on a field trip to Nilson Farms to see how potatoes go from the field, to the warehouse, and then to our tables! We then enjoyed a bag of Northland Potato Chips as a snack on the way home! At VE Schools, we will be participating in a Crunch Off event which encourages healthy eating and supports local agriculture while celebrating Farm to School Month and highlighting the strength a community gains from farmer-school food service partnerships. More fun to come in October!

Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up on October 15th from 4:00 - 8:00 PM in your child's classroom (PK-2 in Hoople, 3-6 in Crystal, 7-12 in Edinburg). This is a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher in their classroom and discuss their progress. Why Attend? Home-to-school connection is crucial for your child’s success. Here’s why attending conferences matters: Understand your child’s progress: Get a clear picture of their academic strengths and areas for growth. Collaborate on solutions: Work with teachers to address any challenges your child may be facing. Support social and emotional development: Learn about your child’s behavior and interactions with peers. Set goals: Help establish goals for the rest of the year, both academically and personally. Strengthen communication: Build a strong line of communication with your child’s teacher, fostering a supportive team effort between home and school. Receive personalized feedback: This one-on-one time allows for meaningful discussion specific to your child. Make the most of your conference by asking these helpful questions: -How is my child doing academically and socially? -What are their strengths and areas for growth? -How can we support learning at home? -What goals should we focus on for the rest of the year? -Are there any behavioral or social concerns? Sign-Up Information: Parents will soon receive a Sign-Up Genius link from their child's teacher to select a time slot that works for you. Be sure to sign up early! We look forward to seeing you there and working together for your child’s success!

Check out these cool creations by our 5th grade students! To conclude Chapter One in , “Our Nation’s Geography,” the fifth graders were tasked with an engaging project: they could either create or choose a town in the United States. Each student was required to write a three-paragraph essay and design a diorama or poster that incorporated vocabulary from the chapter. They needed to detail their town's location, including its state and region, land use, nearby bodies of water, climate, vegetation, and the relationship between the people and their environment. Throughout the chapter, students frequently referenced their own towns, sparking discussions about what defines a town and how communities thrive. These conversations were lively and insightful, making the learning experience even more enjoyable. The students loved this culminating project, which allowed them to apply what they had learned in a creative and meaningful way.
