Congratulations to the seven FCCLA members who represented Valley-Edinburg at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference held in Bismarck April 6-8 ! Raylie served as a timer for STAR events. Kristen and Raylie also had additional duties as chapter voting delegates to determine new state officers and any other business needing a vote. V-E also had two teams in the competitive portion of FCCLA called STAR events (Students Taking Action with Recognition). Both teams were judged by a panel of 3 people - a FCS teacher from a North Dakota school, a North Dakota business leader or community member and a student judge using rubrics with 23 to 30 criteria evaluating their project boards and oral presentations. Raelyn and Christine competed against 8 teams from high schools across North Dakota, They received a gold rating and a top score to qualify for nationals. Their project was in the Focus on Children category and involved educating others, especially teachers, about Reactive Attachment Disorder as well as fundraising for SAVY. Emily, Greta and Angelina also competed with 8 teams from across North Dakota in the Chapter Service Project category. The chapter service project goal was to educate others about and collect supplies for the Pregnancy Help Center. They received a silver rating and a top score that qualified for competition at nationals. The National Leadership Conference will be held in Orlando, Florida from July 5-9. Q. What happens if the referendum is rejected?
A. If the referendum is rejected, our district will continue to operate all three buildings, but will increasingly struggle with the higher costs and inefficiencies of doing so. We will not be able to provide our students with equitable learning spaces and address our most critical building needs.
Our district could consider investments again in the future, but completing the same improvements proposed by this plan would cost significantly more due to rising construction costs. Even if our district pursued a cheaper plan, it would still require a voter-referendum.

Q. How much will the referendum cost me if it is approved by voters?
A. If approved, the referendum will be supported by a property tax increase within our district. If you are a property owner, your tax impact will depend upon the true and full value of your property (not the market value) as it appears on your most recent tax statement. As an example, owners of a home with a true and full value of $100,000 would see a tax increase of $28.57 per month.

Q. Why are there two referendum questions instead of just one?
A. Question One of the referendum asks for authorization to adjust our district's debt limits to fund the full cost of the referendum plan. Question Two asks voters to consider the actual $15.2 million investment. Both questions must receive at least 60% approval from voters to pass and Question Two is contingent upon Question One passing.

It was a wonderful morning in Crystal this morning celebrating our Student of the Month and Quarter students and their supportive families!
Education is a shared journey between educators and parents. A strong home-to-school connection is essential for a child's success in elementary school. When families and educators work together, students feel supported, motivated, and confident in their learning. Simple things like reading at home, discussing school activities, and maintaining open communication with teachers help reinforce learning and build a positive attitude toward education for our students.

17 Valley-Edinburg 7-11th graders participated in the State North Dakota Science & Engineering Fair hosted by UND March 31st-April 1st. Over 180 students participated in the 2-day event that showcases months of hard work and practical application of the scientific method! Every participating VE high school student won an award and 4 of the junior high students won awards as well!
Sophomore Jysmen Gritz’s project on the Effect of Over the Counter Acne Medications on Bacterial Growth earned a top award in the Northeast Region as First Alternate which earned her an invitation as an alternate at the International Science & Engineering Fair in Columbus, Ohio in May.
Sophomores Ingrid Myrdal and Scarlett Dreger won the Farmers Union Insurance award for a project related to agriculture for their project involving Creating Quality Compost from School Food and Paper Waste. The award
included a certificate and cash prize of $50.
Sophomores Carter Oberg and Theodore Otto won the Hinsz and Wigum Families award for a project for research on plants for their project on the Effect of Wildfire Smoke on Plant Photosynthesis. The award included a certificate and a $50 cash prize. They also won a $50 Barnes and Nobles gift card sponsored by Science Fair Director Peter Sykora.
Juniors Elizabeth Fedje and Brooke Gullickson won the North Dakota Veterinary Medical Associate’s award for a project related to veterinary medicine for their project testing the effect of temperature changes on the survival
and reproductive rates of bean beetles. The award included a certificate and a cash prize of $225.
7th graders Torianna Lewis and Sophie Peterson won the Outstanding Project Using the Metric System for Measurements for their project Fabric Wars. 8th graders Keegan Berg and Joe Langerud won the Farmer’s Union Outstanding Project Related to Agriculture for their project Banana Breakdown.
Also, a HUGE thank you to the Valley-Edinburg Boosters for sponsoring meals for both the junior and senior high teams! These students put in a lot of extra hours on their projects and the science fair judging day is a long, stressful day, so it's a pleasure to be able to treat them to a fun meal out and reward them for all their hard work!
We’re excited to announce our March Reading Month challenge winners! Hoople’s Kindergarten class and Crystal’s 3rd grade class took first place! Congratulations to all our readers!

We celebrated our Hoople Elementary Student of the Month and Student of the Quarter students this morning with their families......in the dark!! What a fun morning celebrating our wonderful students and their supportive families! We had a great time, even with no power!
