In December, we celebrated students who embody the character trait of Kindness! These incredible students have shown compassion, generosity, and thoughtfulness to those around them. Whether it’s lending a helping hand, offering a kind word, or including others, they have set a wonderful example at school!
Congratulations to our December Students of the Month! Thank you for spreading kindness and making our school a better place. Keep shining bright! 🌟

Tiny Titans Basketball Camp is in full swing at Hoople Elementary! Reminder that our performance nights for PK-2nd grade participants are Monday, January 20th in Edinburg and Friday, February 7th in Crystal!

The 2024-25 national FCCLA theme is "Dare to Dream". Our high school FCCLA chapter has had several opportunities to tour area businesses relating to the CTE Career Clusters of Agriculture (Food Science), Arts and Design (Fine Arts) and Hospitality, Events and Tourism (Event Planning). These tours allowed students to see first-hand how individuals turned their dreams into careers. In October the students partnered with Rolla FCCLA and toured Badman Designs and All-Seasons Garden Center in Grand Forks. November brought a visit to the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks and meeting with doctorate-level scientists and registered dietitians. The highlight was meeting with Sierra Jensen, a 2018 Valley-Edinburg graduate who now works as the VP of Events and Activation for the Grand Forks Downtown Development Association. She spoke about her membership in FCCLA during high school, her decision to compete with a STAR project and how her top 3 placing at the national FCCLA STAR competition in 2018 positively impacted her and her career choices. The students had food, games and a gift exchange in December. Several students have also been contacting resources and partners, planning activities and fundraising for this year's chapter STAR projects. Stay tuned for posts about these exciting projects! Mrs. Fingarson and her 17 FCCLA members would like to thank you all for your willingness to support our projects!

Merry Christmas!

We will do a Virtual Learning Day at Valley-Edinburg today, Thursday, December 19, due to inclement weather. There will be no in-person learning. Tonight's PK-6 Christmas concert will be rescheduled to tomorrow - more information on time to come shortly.

Valley-Edinburg School will be 2 hours late tomorrow morning, Thursday, December 19. There will be no morning ESP. Please watch for more weather-related updates.

Mrs. Fingarson’s Culinary Arts students have had a great semester! One highlight was the Gonzalez family sharing how to prepare Espagueti Verde (Green Spaghetti). Next was Susan, Kelli and Lucy Vivatson donating potatoes and teaching us how to make traditional Norwegian lefse. Students loved connecting with these volunteers, gaining both cooking skills and cultural insight. During December the students gained real world catering experience when preparing the augratin potatoes for the yearbook fundraiser meal and the bar cookies for the 7-12 grade Christmas concert!

If our PK-6 Christmas concert must be postponed due to stormy weather tomorrow, Thursday, December 19, please indicate in the survey link below which time would be best for your family's schedule. We will try our best to accommodate the best we can if we must postpone.
Please keep in mind that we have lot to work around in order to make this concert work. We've already heard from a number of families that Saturday is full of family Christmases, affecting students, families, and staff. On Friday night we have a double-header, boys and girls basketball JV and Varsity games in Park River, also affecting both student families and staff. Our PK-2 grade students are scheduled to go to a movie at the Lyric Theater on Friday morning, and the earliest they would be able to perform is 2PM. Please keep in mind, also, that bussing will need to be adjusted when we know the potentially rescheduled concert time. As you can see, finding a time that will work for everyone's schedule is going to be difficult. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Again, this is all in anticipation of not being able to have school tomorrow. If we are able to go to school, we will perform at 7PM as scheduled in Crystal. https://forms.gle/qGhpeNnMrcd4YLmc9

School and busses will be 2 hours late tomorrow morning due to extremely icy roads. No morning ESP or scheduled practices.

In our 6th-grade classroom, each day students engage in reading stations tailored to meet their individual learning needs and pace. This small-group setting allows students to focus on specific skills from our reading curriculum, IntoReading while they collaborate with peers, and engage with reading materials while working on independence and time management.
Today, our 6th graders are meeting with their teacher for a direct lesson on synonyms and antonyms as well as figurative language! These targeted lessons not only enhance vocabulary but also build critical thinking and creativity in understanding text.
For parents interested in learning more about the standards guiding our instruction, we encourage you to visit our school website under Documents. There, you'll find detailed all elementary ELA and Math standards for each grade, providing insight into the skills and concepts your child is mastering throughout the year.

The Lady Titans host the Griggs-Midkota Titans tonight in Crystal! Junior high begins at 4:15, with JV and Varsity to follow. Join us in Crystal or stream it live at https://fan.hudl.com/usa/nd/drayton/organization/38894/draytonvalley-edinb-high-school GO, TITANS! 🏀
