Valley-Edinburg Annual School Board June Election
Notice is hereby given that on the 10th of June, 2025, the annual election for the Valley-Edinburg School District #118 will be held for the purpose of electing two directors for three-year terms for two open at-large School Board positions and to determine whether to publish school board meeting minutes in the newspaper.
Polls will open at eleven o’clock a.m. and close at seven o’clock p.m. The polling locations for this election will be the three Valley-Edinburg School Locations:
Hoople – 2040 Myrtle Avenue, Hoople, ND 58243
Crystal – 4013 Euclid Avenue, Crystal, ND 58222
Edinburg - 600 6th Street S., Edinburg, ND 58227.
The positions up for election are those currently held by Thomas Fagerholt and Natalie Cameron.
Tyler Needham, Christopher Evenson, Andrew Moquist, & Natalie Cameron have filed for these open positions.
Applications for absentee ballots can be mailed or emailed out to you upon request by contacting the Business Manager, April Sommer, at 701-657-2163 (Crystal School) or via email at April.Sommer@valley-edinburgk12.com. Once the application has been filled out and returned to the Business Manager, an absentee ballot will be mailed to you. Please submit your applications in a timely manner to allow time for the ballot to be mailed to you and returned. Absentee ballots must be completed and returned by 4pm the day prior to the election or post marked by the day prior to the election (June 9th, 2025).
NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, a special election will be held in Valley-Edinburg Public School District No. 118 of Pembina County, North Dakota, for the purpose of submitting to the voters of the School District, the question as to whether the following Initial Resolution for the issuance of general obligation bonds adopted by the School Board of the School District on February 25, 2025, at a regular meeting of the School Board duly called and held, shall be approved:
BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Valley-Edinburg Public School District No. 118, Pembina County, North Dakota (the "School District"), that it is necessary and expedient for the School District to issue its general obligation school building bonds as hereafter described:
The maximum amount of bonds proposed to be issued is $15,175,000.
The purpose for which the bonds are proposed to be issued is to provide funds, together with any other funds available, to construct improvements to the Edinburg school building including, but not limited to learning, performance and athletic spaces, improved safe and secure entrance, dedicated areas for counseling, music, fitness, cafeteria dining, locker rooms, and staff offices, replacement of windows and roofing, and repair of damaged brick and exterior surfaces, to construct improvements to the Hoople school building including, but not limited to learning, performance and athletics spaces, dedicated areas for cafeteria dining, additional classrooms, locker rooms, staff offices, new 500-seat gymnasium, additional parking, and a relocated safe and secure building entrance, and to otherwise improve, renovate, remodel, construct and equip school property and make site improvements to school property.
The assessed valuation of all taxable property in the School District as defined in N.D.C.C. Section 21‑03‑01, is $153,556,023 as last finally equalized for the year 2024.
The total amount of bonded indebtedness of the School District, all issued for school building purposes, is $0.
YOU ARE FURTHER NOTIFIED that the School District intends to issue the $15,175,000 general obligation bonds resulting in an additional millage of 76.18 mills, equal to $76.18 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation for the first taxable year after all of the bonds are issued.
AND YOU ARE FURTHER NOTIFIED AS FOLLOWS:
That the School Board of the School District, by Resolution duly adopted on February 25, 2025, has resolved to submit the question of increasing the limit of indebtedness of the School District five percent (5%) on the assessed value of the taxable property of the School District beyond the five percent (5%) limit of indebtedness fixed by the Constitution, at the election of which notice is hereby given; that the election of which you are hereby notified is to be held for the further purpose of submitting to the electors of Valley-Edinburg Public School District No. 118 of Pembina County, North Dakota, the question of whether or not the debt limit of the School District shall be increased five percent (5%) on the assessed value of the taxable property of the School District beyond the five percent (5%) limit of indebtedness now fixed by the Constitution.

That the polling places for holding the election will be:
